Some good, simple info on decorating to simulate the Neon Tetra habitat:

After I read this, I immediately changed out my tank lighting to a more subdued ambience, added some shade via floating plants, and added a black backdrop. The tetras show up much more nicely against the dark backdrop (I’d had everything really bright), and the fish have responded by swimming about more boldly than before!
